Hello, World (Again)

Every site needs a first post, and every first post needs to apologize for existing. I'm not going to do that.

CastleHollow is back — or rather, it's new, but feels like something that should have always existed. Built with Perl and stubbornness, as the source code politely notes if you go looking.

Why Perl?

Because it works. Because it's been working since before most current web frameworks were a glint in someone's eye. Because "no one uses Perl anymore" is the kind of thing people say right before they discover their bank, their ISP, and half the internet still run on it.

Also because I like it. That should be enough.

What's This Site For?

A few things:

  • A place to write. Expect technical posts, opinions, and the occasional digression into things that have nothing to do with computers.
  • A showcase for Perl freelance work. If you need Perl, I do that.
  • A portal. A hub. A home page in the old sense — a place you start from, not a place designed to keep you.

More soon.
